What 5th Crawley’s been up to this term
It’s been a busy and exciting start to the new Scouting year! All our sections have been working hard, learning new skills, earning badges, and having plenty of fun along the way. Here are just some of the things everyone’s been up to since we came back in September:
Squirrels
Our Squirrels have had a super busy term! They’ve earned two badges – Emergency Aid Level 1 and Builder.
We had a special visit from a police officer, tried on their coat and hat, did some leaf printing, built with LEGO, and played lots of team games.
Next, we’ll be working on the All Around Us badge by sending postcards and pictures to another Drey.
Beavers
Our two Beaver colonies have packed loads into this term!
Maidenbower Colony had their first overnight camp, and we celebrated three Beavers completing their remaining parts of the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award. They also painted rocks to gift to the nurses at Crawley Hospital as a thank you, and learned new life skills while finding out about Beavers in other countries.
Three Bridges Colony earned their Photographer and Digital Maker Stage 1 badges. For Harvest Festival, they made apple turnovers and took them to Open House, followed by a spooky walk back! They also learned about different countries, trying new foods, greetings, and discovering how Scouting works around the world.
Cubs
Our Cubs have been learning first aid skills, with plans for another session next term to build on what they’ve learned.
They had a brilliant trip to Blacklands Farm, where they took on some challenging climbs and learned harness safety and rope belaying.
They’ve also earned badges including International, Money Skills, and Disability Awareness, great work, Cubs!
Scouts
The Scouts have had an awesome few months! They enjoyed a week-long Summer Camp in Kent full of outdoor fun, a weekend camp at Stanford’s (sleeping under the stars, in a tent, of course!), a Chipshop Hike where they planned and navigated their own route, and a brilliant Trading Post night, showing off their Scouting skills to earn lots of Baden Pounds!
What a fantastic start to the term! We’re so proud of everything our young people have achieved and can’t wait to see what adventures the rest of the year brings.
