The Group Trustee Committee

Behind every great Scout Group is a dedicated team working hard to keep things running smoothly, that’s where our Group Trustee Committee comes in!

The committee plays a vital role in supporting our leaders and ensuring that we can deliver safe, high-quality Scouting experiences for all our young people. Working alongside the Group Scout Leader, the committee makes key decisions and manages the day-to-day administration that keeps our Group strong and thriving.

What the Trustee Committee Does

Our trustees work together to:

  • Follow the Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) of The Scout Association.

  • Look after our property and equipment, keeping everything safe and ready for adventure.

  • Manage our finances responsibly to ensure every penny supports great Scouting.

  • Arrange insurance for our people, property and kit.

  • Provide resources to help Scouting grow; from fundraising and recruitment to supporting our amazing volunteers.

  • Promote Scouting and maintain a positive presence in the local community.

  • Support safety and implement the Safety Policy within the Group.

  • Encourage youth involvement so our young people have a voice in decision-making.

  • Oversee sub-committees where needed, including appointing their Chairs.

  • Review and approve the Annual Report and Accounts before presenting them at the AGM.

  • Maintain confidentiality on sensitive committee matters.

Being a Trustee

All members of the committee act as charity trustees, working together in the best interests of the Group and its members. The Scout Association’s POR (rule 3.23) explains the full membership and structure of the Group Trustee Committee, and further details about charity trustee responsibilities can be found through the relevant Charity Regulator.

If you are interested in helping the Scout Group by becoming a member of the Group Trustee Committee please speak to the Group Scout Leader, your section leader or any member of the Group Trustee Committee who will share with you more about the role and how this can take place.
