5th Crawley Scouts Honour Remembrance Weekend

Date: 10th Nov 2025 Author: Gareth Thrower

It was a busy and meaningful weekend for 5th Crawley’s Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers as they joined together with other Scout groups across Crawley to mark Remembrance Sunday.

On Saturday, our Beaver sections enjoyed an exciting trip to the Imperial War Museum in London, where they explored fascinating exhibits and learned about the experiences of those who served in conflicts past and present. The adventure included a train journey into the city, always a highlight for our young Beavers and, on the way home, a well-earned stop at McDonald’s followed by some fun playing in the park after dark!

The Beavers then spent the night at St Paul’s alongside 1st Northgate Beavers and Cubs, ready to take part in the following day’s Remembrance activities. On Sunday morning, a parent gave a talk on serving in the armed forces and how showed some artifices from WW1 and WW2 including his medal collection. Then everyone got dressed smartly in uniform and attended the Remembrance service at St Paul’s, showing great respect and understanding of the occasion.

Meanwhile, our Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers proudly represented 5th Crawley in the Crawley town Remembrance Parade and service, joining other units to pay their respects to those who gave their lives in service to the country.

A special moment for our group came as one of our Squirrels joined the service and carried the 5th Crawley Squirrel flag, the very first time it has been carried since our Squirrel section opened.

We’re incredibly proud of all our young people for the way they represented 5th Crawley this weekend with enthusiasm, respect, and community spirit.
