Beaver Camp 2025

Date: 1st Jun 2025 Author: Gareth Thrower
What an incredible weekend our Beavers had on their two-night camp at Stanford! For some, it was their very first time away from home – and they absolutely rose to the challenge. Packed with fun, friendship, and fantastic activities, the camp was full of excitement from start to finish.

Setting Up Camp

The adventure began with pitching tents and setting up the beds – a big achievement for such young explorers! Beavers worked in teams to get settled, learning independence right from the start.
Over the weekend, they blasted through a galaxy of activities:
  • Space games & ‘Astronaut Says’ (a huge hit!)
  • Archery – aiming like true cosmic rangers
  • Camp first aid, including tick awareness training
  • Space arts, colouring, and activities
  • Team games and Beaver-led games
  • Learning scout knots and preparing gear for hikes
  • Angel Throwing – a completely bonkers and brilliant moment that Robin absolutely nailed with her call.
They even set up their very own space camp – complete with decorations, stories, and imagination in full swing!

Fire Skills & Camp Life

Beavers learned how to collect wood, build and light a fire, and keep safe around it. From toasting marshmallows and making chocolate bananas, to cooking dinner in foil wraps over the flames, every moment was hands-on and unforgettable.
One of the proudest moments? Each Beaver chopped their own potatoes and tomatoes, built their own meal, and cooked it themselves – and the verdict?
“A million out of a million – better than McDonald’s!”

Hike to Buchan Park

The Beavers geared up independently for a hike to nearby Buchan Park – complete with a mini beast hunt, quiet walking through nesting areas, and space food snacks along the way. They showed true teamwork and respect for nature.

Mealtimes & Favourites

Spaghetti Bolognese, hotdogs, and even a Full English Breakfast were all on the menu. But what was the surprise favourite snack? Fruit! (Yes – really!)
Of course, there were also cakes, space food, and plenty of hot chocolate to keep everyone fuelled and smiling.

Campfire Magic

In the evenings, we gathered around the fire for:
  • Camp songs
  • Space stories
  • Toasting marshmallows for smores
  • And more mugs of hot chocolate before bed
Our Beavers had an incredible time, earning lots of badges along the way, from camping and hiking to first aid and cooking. But more importantly, they gained confidence, friendships, and lifelong memories.
A huge thank you to all the leaders, helpers, and of course, the Beavers themselves – for making this camp such a blast.
