Cub Camp 2025

Date: 1st Jun 2025 Author: Gareth Thrower

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Cubs from both of our Packs came together for their annual adventure at Stanford Campsite, spending two nights surrounded by nature – and plenty of excitement!

With a theme focused on nature and the great outdoors, our Cubs threw themselves into every challenge, working hard toward their Outdoor Challenge Badge, Navigator Badge, and the prestigious Earth Tribe Award.

Back to Basics – Cubs Style

After arriving and getting stuck in with pitching their tents, the Cubs wasted no time:

  • Building a draining board from scratch

  • Practising essential first aid skills

  • Learning how to light and maintain a campfire

  • Cooking their own dinner over the flames

  • Crafting wildflower seed bombs and bird feeders

And all that… was just day one!

The evening brought everyone together around the campfire for songs, stories, and plenty of laughter – the perfect end to a very full day.

Hike, Habitat & Ice Cream

Refreshed after a good night’s sleep (mostly!), the Cubs hiked to Buchan Park, earning an ice cream and cake for their efforts. Along the way, they explored local flora and fauna, learning about the habitats and ecosystems around them. The hike was a brilliant way to blend fitness with fun and learning.

Skills, Shelter & Serious Rounders

Sunday afternoon saw the Cubs:

  • Try their hand at “Angel Throwing” – a firm favourite!

  • Practice taking compass bearings

  • Put their survival skills to the test by building shelters using only scavenged natural materials

To round off the day, a lively and competitive game of rounders kept everyone moving and laughing until sunset.

Pack Down & Proud Moments

With Monday morning came the final challenge – striking camp and packing up (with a remarkably low number of lost socks and stray torches!). Every Cub pitched in, showing independence, teamwork, and a real sense of pride in what they’d achieved.

Happy, tired, and full of memories, our Cubs returned home having built skills, friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

A massive thank you to all the Leaders and volunteers who made the weekend possible – and to the Cubs themselves, for bringing boundless energy and enthusiasm to every moment.

Nature explored, challenges conquered – Cub Camp 2025 was a roaring success!
