Maidenbower Beavers Jan-Mar 2025

What an exciting and action-packed quarter it has been for our Beavers! We’ve been busy working towards a variety of badges and learning lots of new skills along the way.

Beaver Winter Sleepover

Our Beaver Winter Sleepover was a huge success! We spent the afternoon learning all about Chinese New Year and enjoying some time at the park before heading back to the hut for a fun-filled evening. The Beavers got creative with crafts, sang campfire songs, and tried a taste of Chinese food—with plenty of options for everyone.

In the morning we kicked off the day with a delicious BBQ breakfast, followed by more exciting activities. For some of our Beavers, this was their first-ever sleepover, and they did amazingly well! Activities throughout the weekend helped them work towards their badges, and most importantly, great fun was had by all!

Collectors Badge

We kicked off the quarter by diving into the Collectors Badge. To inspire our Beavers, we welcomed a special guest speaker who shared his incredible collection of army medals. It was fascinating to hear the stories behind each medal and learn about the dedication and bravery they represent.

Helping Nature

Our Beavers have also been learning about the importance of caring for plants, insects, and animals. We discussed why our natural world needs our help and got hands-on by making bird feeders to hang in our gardens and we planted seeds to nurture at home. It was great to see everyone so enthusiastic about protecting our local wildlife.

Digital Discovery
Technology has been another big focus. We explored different types of technology, learned about symbols used online, and discussed how to create safe usernames. It’s important for our Beavers to know how to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.

Air Activities
Our Air Activities were a real highlight! We learned about various types of aircraft, made and tested different designs of paper airplanes, and even had a visit from a real-life pilot. To top it off, we took an exciting trip to a World War II aircraft museum, where we saw historic planes up close and learned about their role in history.

Fun and Celebrations
Of course, it hasn’t been all work and no play! We had a flipping good time making pancakes for Pancake Day, went bowling at Crawley Bowling Alley, and enjoyed lots of fun activities together.

Looking Ahead
With just a few weeks until Easter, there’s still plenty more to come. We’re gearing up for Science Week, where we’ll be doing some hands-on experiments, celebrating Mother’s Day with a special activity, and ending the quarter with a fantastic open-fire cooking session at Stanford to  practice lighting fires & other outdoor skills. The Beavers will also be joining the other Squirrels and Beavers from around Crawley at the Easter Funday at Standford.

It’s been a fantastic few months, and we can’t wait for all the adventures still to come!
